Trial run of “Light Murals” projection, July 2014

“Light Murals,” iconic projections of the work of fine art photographer Miranda Gatewood, will premiere on the evening of Fri., August 8, 2014 from 8-9 PM during an evening of free public arts in Downtown Riverhead, NY 11901. Using downtown Riverhead as her canvas, her photographic images, with the addition of words, will be projected onto buildings in disrepair-–a metaphor for projecting possibilities for the future of the township undergoing reconstruction and renewal.  Not your everyday drive-in movie!

Oh, and, by the way, there is a crowdfunding video and a “tip cup” (Make a Donation button) on the Light Murals blog. Thank you!

Artspace Patchogue, NY Show, April 15-30, 2014

© Miranda Gatewood-3106Women’s Exhibit at Artspace Patchogue Gallery, April 1530, 2014. Opening reception April 19th at 7 pm. The Gallery at Artspace Patchogue allows resident artists, local, national, and international artists a chance to share their works with the local community and visitors. Located in downtown Patchogue, a Long Island community about 50 miles east of New York City, Artspace Patchogue houses The Patchogue Arts Council and The Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center and represents both economic revitalization and the opportunity to strengthen a growing arts community. Thanks to Denise Palmieri for this exhibition opportunity. Gallery Hours: Thurs.-Fri. 5-9, Sat. 1-7, Sun. 1-5.

Caregiver, my piece in the invitational show, represents a photographer’s level of intimacy with the subject. This image was made a month before a friend’s father passed away. It chronicles his slipping away from our world of clarity and vitality. Even the space he occupies is metaphorically devoid of color and vibrancy. In a rare moment of relief from the burden of caretaking, his wife and caregiver smiles in resilience.
