East End Fringe Festival

“The Future is Female,” a collection of visionary writings, was performed and read aloud before patrons on Thurs., March 23, 2017 at the Dark Horse Restaurant, Riverhead, NY.  It was an artist and advocate corroboration uniting a multi-generational audience of mostly women. Each performance was met with stunning awe for addressing women’s own common stories and breaching topics that were forbidden to discuss only 100 years ago: equality and the right to vote among them.

Hailed as Theatre on the Edge, the evening’s installment of performances and writings included “What Young Women May Not Know, ” by Sharon Weeks, writer and photographer. Weeks, who traveled from Wisconsin, received a standing ovation. Her compassionate piece urged this generation not to become “complacent and too comfortable” as it chronicled the last century’s perilous struggle women underwent toward equal rights. It was originally published in the Leader-Telegram, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
